The story takes place in Hell, in Dante Alighieri’s allegorical poem La Divina Commedia. In his comedy, set around Easter in the year 1300, Dante undertakes a journey through the three kingdoms that are thought to await man after death: Inferno (Hell), Purgatorio (Purgatory) and Paradiso (Paradise). But in Solblomma’s liberal interpretation of the work, the author is excluded! Instead, she makes the perilous journey herself, with the Roman poet Virgil in tow, through two halls and the nine circles of Hell.
The Swedish singer’s new album, with the working title ‘Tiptoe into Limbo’, offers an immersive experience through its 11 electronic compositions that blend a mystical narrative inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy with the mundane reality of daily life in the 21st century. The album’s theme is reminiscent of the character Rael’s underworld adventure in Genesis’ ‘The Lamb lies down on Broadway’.
Virgil holds the mortal Solblomma in his hand as they encounter the underworld’s immortal ferryman Charon, cross the River Acheron, and voyage down through the funnel of Hell. They tiptoe into Limbo, meet Kerberos, the multi-headed Hound of Hades, fight with lions, hide in the Charles’s Wain (Big Dipper) and then...check into a hotel!
Solblomma observes:
“Vergilius is waiting for me in the last corner of the forest. The night is dark, the sins weigh heavily and the predators are hungry. The sun does not climb up behind the mountain even though the dawn has come. The platform is deserted but the train enters, on Track 7. We abandon hope outside and enter through the gates of hell – Virgil and I”
Come join Virgil and Solblomma on their heroic journey!
